Ardfern village is located on the beautiful Craignish Peninsula, in Mid Argyll. It is ideally located for exploring the many attractions which Argyll has to offer the holiday maker. The Craignish Guide has more details of the many features of the area. Ardfern village itself has a well stocked village shop and Post Office, as well as a Craft shop and a chandlery at the Yacht Centre. For eating out, there is a choice of the Galley of Lorne Inn or the Crafty Kitchen, both of which are just a short walk from Tigh an Innis. Slightly further afield, you may wish to sample the food at the Lord of the Isles, the Shower of Herring or the Kilmartin Hotel. If you wish to enjoy a relaxed evening in, local business, Fab Food by Pam, will deliver (by prior arrangement) home-cooked food to your cottage. Ardfern boasts a fabulous new village hall, which organises many arts events and exhibitions throughout the year. For information on upcoming events and/or to book the hall visit www.craignishvillagehall.org.uk or call 01852 500746. Craignish Penisula is a paradise for nature lovers, with many sea birds and birds of prey being seen regularly. The waters of Loch Craignish are home to otters and seal colonies. A walk or cycle down the quiet single track road towards the end of the peninsula may well reward you with sightings of some of these - and the sunsets from the end of the peninsula (approx 5 miles from the village) can be spectacular! For the more adventurous, why not visit Lunga Riding Centre or take one of the boat trips available in the area. Craignish Cruises and Sea-fari adventures are both highly recommended! Mid Argyll is steeped in history, with many standing stones and early burial grounds found particularly in the Kilmartin Glen. The excellent and award winning Kilmartin Museum helps to interpret these sites, for visitors of all ages. The Highland town of Oban is approximately 45 minutes drive away, with supermarkets, restaurants, high street shopping, a railway station and a ferry terminal. The Caledonian MacBrayne ferries sail from Oban to Mull, Iona and Staffa - all of which can be visited as a day trip. A few miles past Oban, you may like to visit the Bonawe Historic Iron Furnace, Ben Cruachan Hydro Electric Centre or the Oban Sea Life Centre. To the South of Ardfern is the spectacular Kintyre peninsula, with ferries to visit Islay, Jura, Gigha or Arran. The pretty town of Inveraray is around an hours drive away, with Inveraray Jail (particularly popular with children!), Inverary Castle and a range of gift shops and restaurants.
